USC's Village opened in 2017 but this was my first chance to walk around and take in the sights. This project created 25% more campus housing for undergraduates. There are stores sprinkled in, including a great juice place, SunLife Organics, Target, Trader Joe's, and The Baked Bear.
According to USC news, students who are passionate about social justice can find a home at USC's Bohnett Residential College. Residents of this college are looking for solutions to important social issues such as gun violence, homelessness, and college access. This is part of a growing movement to bring an academic side to social activism.
USC has pledged $20 million to LA's affordable housing trust that creates housing for low-income housing. The university also committed to hiring local workers, and 20% of the project's construction crews live within five miles of the Village.
