I recently attended a Zoom webinar put on by RIT that provided an overview of the school by Mark Embridge in admissions, Dr. Catherine Lewis from Disability Services, and Bethany Bradley from the Spectrum Support Program.
RIT is a private school in suburban Rochester, has about 17,000 students and offers a co-op program. Beyond excellent experiential academics, RIT offers a fee-based program for students on the autism spectrum. The program was started in 2008 and has a full-time staff of eight. The program serves 100-115 students per year, and provides 1:1 coaching, social events, cross-campus collaboration, faculty and staff training, a neurodiverse hiring initiative, and early move in and pre-arrival programming. For all students with learning differences, Disability Services creates a welcoming space for students. At RIT, disability is valued as diversity, and accommodations are a form of equity.
